Event Description:
Arabian Night at the Museum 7-8 pm after a museum-hosted reception at 6:30 pm. Rita Parisi of Waterfalls Productions will portray “an Arabian Princess from Zanzibar:” Emily Ruete, born as Princess Salamah bint Said, in 1844, grew up in a harem as the youngest child of the Sultan of Oman and Zanzibar. Hear her story (the theatrical presentation is based on her 1886 autobiography), and about women’s rights in Eastern and Western Culture. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Gardner Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the MA Cultural Council, a state agency.
